NEW PROMOTIONS FOR JOE SPARROW AND JESSICA WHITE
Care Horizons has been going from strength to strength recently and is delighted to announce the appointment of two of their team members to the management team.
JOE SPARROW
Joe Sparrow is 53 years old and started her career in care at just 19 years old. She was inspired by her mother who had worked in a hospital for over 25 years and then in a community home, dedicated to both her roles and making a difference to people’s lives. After seeing how much her mum loved it, Joe was inspired and began her own career in care.
Joe joined Care Horizons in 2007 where she started as a Team Leader. Since starting she has seen Care Horizons flourish and get progressively bigger, having taken on more care packages and in turn new staff. She has seen the company gain a much bigger presence within South Gloucestershire, building good relationships with social workers and enabling them to offer more training.
When asked what she thought makes Care Horizons stand out she replied ‘Our staff, they are all amazing and go that extra mile. We pride ourselves on never having to use agency staff, and our clients know that they will never have a stranger turn up to support them, which is so important as that can be scary and overwhelming for people’.
Joe has stayed in care for 35 years because she genuinely loves her job and she has been able to witness many positive changes in the care sector over the years. ‘The positive impact that good quality care can have on people’s lives is massive, and is amazing to witness and really humbling’, said Joe.
Joe is very excited to see what the future holds for Care Horizons over the coming years and wants to continue helping to make people’s lives better. She has 3 grown up daughters, 1 granddaughter and 2 dogs. She is happiest when spending time with her family and in her spare time walks her dogs, gardens and cooks.
For now, Jessica feels like she won’t change anything in the way she does her new role within Care Horizons. She says she will continue to follow her gut and heart and intends to spend the next five plus years learning everything she possibly can from the experiences and knowledge of social care. She feels she has already learned so much from Managing Director Vierka Hiscock and Jo Sparrow over the past few years and wants to continue this to hopefully progress higher in the company in the future.
Jessica feels Care Horizons is different from any other company she has previously worked at as she hasn’t worked anywhere else that made her feel the client is always put first.
‘It’s in the name ‘CARE Horizons’, all of our staff and higher ups genuinely care about each other and every client’ she said.
Jessica feels she was always supposed to work in social care with every job she’s had in the past always feeling like work, whereas social care to her feels like a passion. She enjoys walks with her family and is happiest in the summer when the sun is shining.
JESSICA WHITE
Jessica White is 30 years old and has worked in social care for 7 years. When asked how she got into social care she explained that her son was diagnosed with autism at 2 years old and that day changed her life forever.
‘I felt I needed to understand him and help him the best I could, I learned Makaton and did various courses on understanding autism and learning disabilities’ said Jessica.
He was soon referred to a special needs nursery that he went to every day and Jessica felt that while he was in school, she could spend her time helping other people. Hence, she changed careers and started a job doing support work for a company she stayed with for almost 2 years.
In October of 2019 she started a role as a support worker at Care Horizons. Since starting she has gone from strength to strength being promoted to a team leader in 2021 and now to Deputy Manager.
When asked how she felt about her promotion, she responded, ‘I feel this is the perfect time, as I have been working in the office twice a week anyway, learning from the Service Manager Jo Sparrow while I was Team Leader’.
