When families come to us privately

Many of the families who fund support privately do so because they want something the standard route cannot give them: speed, flexibility, and a relationship they can trust.

Some need support to begin sooner than an assessment and funding panel allow. Some want a package shaped precisely around the person, not a commissioning framework. Some have tried other arrangements that looked right on paper and never settled. And some are simply planning carefully for the future, while they still can.

Whatever brings you to us, the conversation is confidential, unhurried, and commits you to nothing.

Who this is for

Adults whose needs have outgrown standard services

We are usually a good fit for adults who are autistic, have a learning disability, ADHD, long-term mental health needs, behavioural distress, or a combination of these. Some families are fully self-funding; others combine private funds with direct payments or personal budgets. If you are not sure whether your situation falls within our remit, a short confidential conversation will usually make that clear quite quickly.

What private support with us means

Built around certainty, not hours

We are not a one-hour-visit agency and we are not a revolving-door service. We build support around the person, then run it with serious governance behind the scenes.

Certainty, not hours

You are not buying time slots. You are buying a stable, dependable arrangement that holds — and people who will still be there next year.

Discretion

Private support is handled with complete confidentiality and sensitivity. Many of our private families value privacy as much as quality, and we treat it accordingly.

Flexibility outside frameworks

A private package can be shaped precisely around the person, the family, the home and the day — without the constraints of a commissioning specification.

Direct access to decision-makers

No call centre, no commissioning delays. Every package has senior oversight from Director Vierka Hiscock — faster decisions, clearer accountability.

Relationship continuity

The same two or three people stay with the person, week after week, year after year. Continuity is the heart of what we offer.

Planning for the future

We help families put the right support in place now, while they can still oversee it — see planning for the future.

What a self-funded package can look like

Every package is bespoke

Private support with Care Horizons often includes a mix of the following — built around the individual, and able to step up or down as needs change.

  • Daily or weekly visits to create calmer, more stable routines at home
  • Personal care, medication prompts, meals and household tasks
  • Community access, appointments, travel and social activities
  • Emotional support and structure alongside therapy or mental health treatment
  • Independent living mentoring — routines, money, boundaries, practical life skills
  • A gradual step-up from light-touch support to intensive daily or 24-hour packages when needed

From first conversation to first visit

A clear, considered process

01

Confidential consultation

A no-obligation phone or video call. You share your situation, what has and hasn’t worked, and what you would like to change.

02

An honest view on fit

We are honest about whether we are likely to be a good fit. If not, we will say so — often suggesting who might be.

03

Indicative proposal and fee range

If there appears to be a good fit, we outline a proposed package and give you an indicative monthly cost or range.

04

Detailed planning

We develop a fuller plan around hours, staffing, routines, goals and any professional input already in place.

05

Team matching and start date

You meet the proposed core staff. We agree start dates and plan the first weeks carefully.

06

Review and refinement

Once support begins, we review it properly and adjust. Our aim is not just to start support, but to make it hold.

Why families fund support privately

Public-sector support exists — but it isn’t always the right route

Support needs to start sooner

Assessments, panels and funding decisions take time. Private support can begin within days of the first conversation.

Shaped around the person

Local-authority packages sit inside commissioning frameworks. A private package is built precisely around the individual and the family.

Previous arrangements haven’t held

Some families come to us after several agencies. By the time they reach us, what they want is something that will stay.

They are planning for the future

Putting the right team in place now, while a parent is still able to oversee it, is a deliberate, careful choice — and we help families make it.

Safety & governance

The framework behind the work

A private package is held inside the same regulated framework as everything else we do. The Care Quality Commission has inspected and rated us Good. We are certified to ISO 9001:2015 (cert 282832018, to 07/05/2028) and ISO 45001:2018 (cert 374412021, to 01/07/2028) — both held since 2018 and renewed through annual external audit — and Citation Quiqcare keeps our compliance evidence current rather than annual. Vierka Hiscock is the Registered Manager and Nominated Individual. We are members of the South Gloucestershire Adult Strategic Safeguarding Board and insured through Marsh Commercial. We believe private clients deserve the same rigour, evidence and accountability as any large commissioned service — often more. Evidence available on request.

Frequently asked questions

Private support, answered

Can support start small and increase later?

Yes. Some families begin with a smaller package and increase support as trust builds or needs change. Others need a more intensive package from the start.

How quickly can support begin?

For urgent situations we can usually begin within days. For planned packages, the typical lead time is one to two weeks once a fit has been agreed.

How is confidentiality handled?

With complete discretion. Information is treated in confidence, and we are used to working sensitively with families for whom privacy matters.

Do you work alongside our existing professionals?

Yes — therapists, psychiatrists, GPs, social workers, deputies, solicitors and case managers. We contribute to reviews and provide written updates as appropriate.

Real examples

The kind of support we provide

Names changed. Details true to the work we actually do.

Autism & anxiety · privately funded

Tom

Several packages had been tried; teams changed constantly and nothing held. Tom’s parents privately funded a small, stable team. Three years on, he has a predictable routine with two core support workers, and his parents are no longer on call for every crisis.

Anxiety & low confidence · privately funded

Helen

Below the threshold for a large commissioned package, but life was shrinking. Her daughter privately funded two short visits a week. A year on, Helen keeps on top of her home, attends appointments and leaves the house regularly — without her daughter carrying everything alone.

Mental health step-down · mixed funding

A return home

Home after a long mental health admission, where other services had struggled. We provided the day-to-day consistency that let treatment and ordinary life work together again. Three years on, she lives independently with two visits a week.

03

We come and meet
